The Pacific Northwest’s ONLY 50th Anniversary #Star Trek Convention Features Regional Celebrities and More
Proceeds will support Operation: Dog Tag to benefit military veterans with PTSD
Spokane WA FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Today Paula Scarborough of Stardust Entertainment Services announced the upcoming 50th Anniversary Star Trek convention, Starkane, to be held at Red Lion, Templin’s on the River in Post Falls, Idaho from September 8th through September 11th. The deadline to order tickets for the four-day event is June 30th, 2016. After that, prices go up.
Scarborough, herself a Navy veteran, says the decision to donate the money raised during the four day convention was a no-brainer for her. “I’ve seen how veterans with PTSD can benefit from Operation: Dog Tag, which trains service dogs to support affected veterans.” Smiling warmly, she continued, “Combining my love of Star Trek with my respect for and love of military veterans and their families just seemed to be ‘a match made in Starfleet.’”
The celebrity guest line up for the convention should be of enormous interest to Pacific Northwest fans of the iconic television and motion picture series. Several of the celebrities grew up in these parts, among them Connor Trinneer (Trip Tucker), Chris Doohan (James Doohan’s son, now reprising his father’s role of “Scotty” on the Internet series Star Trek Continues), Hal Donahue (a Post Falls native who played several background characters in 13 episodes of Star Trek: The Next Generation), and author and copywriter Kristine M. Smith, whose writing career was launched by DeForest Kelley. (Kris served as Kelley’s personal assistant and caregiver at the end of his life).
Other celebrities already confirmed for the Starkane convention include Tim Russ (Tuvok), Rick Sternbach (illustrator), Dragon Dronet (props/stunts), and Lawrence Montaigne (Stonn). Additional celebrities and behind-the-scenes folks may be added between now and the convention, depending on their availability.
Thursday evening will feature the pilot of the original Star Trek and the last few minutes of Star Trek: The Final Frontier, the last motion picture that starred the entire original cast. Friday and Saturday will feature panel discussions, an exclusive vendor’s room, a masquerade contest, gaming, an auction, trivia contests, photo ops with the guest celebrities, autograph sessions, and more.
Again, the deadline to order tickets at the current price for the four-day event is June 30th, 2016. Ticket prices start at $75 and include the entire four-day run or any portion thereof. Attendees who want to brunch with some of the celebrities on Sunday morning can purchase a separate $10 ticket at registration; attendees who want to meet one of the stars up close and personal, as well as get a front row seat and other perks, will pay as much as $125 for the four-day event.
