One box of “DeForest Kelley Up Close and Personal” is due to arrive today, so I’m sticking close to home so I can accept it when it arrives.
I think there are 24 copies in it–almost enough to satisfy the request from New Day Northwest that I provide 35 copies of the book for audience members.
The other two boxes of books shipped at the same time (50 total) but I haven’t received confirmation yet as to when they expect to be brought to the doorstep. All are scheduled to arrive no later than next Tuesday, July 26th–a good week ahead of the interview. (I needed to make sure of that! I don’t want to arrive short of books! That wouldn’t fly very well with the studio audience!)
I want to check the quality of the books (sometimes Createspace prints covers that look really bad!) as soon as they arrive. If they’re all great, I need to sign them all (just my signature) so everyone gets a signed copy. I can personalize them if studio audience members request it…
An aside: I’m fighting summer allergies or a summer cold. I think it’s allergies so yesterday I did a complete makeover of my bedroom. I ousted every last piece of cat hair, dust bunnies and anything else that would have made performing surgery in there hazardous.
While I was doing that my sinuses were having a field day. Overnight, they plugged up less than they have on earlier nights, so I anticipate a full recovery in the next few days. I sure don’t want to go on NEW DAY Northwest sounding like Maude (Bea Arthur) with a sneezing or coughing fit!
In Other News…
Jim Fossett of the Northern Kittitas County Tribune is going to post my NEW DAY appearance date fi I can get it to him today (otherwise he’ll just post a link to New Day’s Upcoming Guests page), my Yellow Balloon website URL, and the Starkane convention info in the Upcoming Events section of the newspaper.
Jim also gave me two leads so I can continue making inroads over there. There’s a book store in Roslyn that hosts book signings and lectures, and an Ellensburg radio host who interviews topical, newsworthy guests. So I’ll be reaching out to these two possibilities in the next week or so, to see what kind of additional fun I can get into on the dry side of the state in my old stomping grounds…
In Still Other News… In Stitches (of Mirth)!
Yesterday I played “patient” to two friends who are studying/rehearsing to take the state CNA test. What a hoot that was! We were in stitches.
They know their stuff (the required steps for each of 22 common CNA tasks) but when they decided to time the tasks on which they’d be rated using a stopwatch, the first one who tried it went into “warp drive” and rushed into the room talking a mile a second!
Needless to say, I “recoiled” in mock terror!
We laughed so hard at the situation that we were breathless afterward!
I suggested, still recovering from my laughter, “Your patient shouldn’t recognize you’re on a tight time schedule. You have plenty of time to do this task without running in and confounding her in foreign tongues!”
Maybe you had to be there, but it was absolutely hysterical…
I was asked to portray a patient with all my marbles intact and patients with memory, mobility and wakefulness issues. So I got put through my paces. I did it well enough that they didn’t feel they were “rehearsing” but were actually caring for a real patient. Except for the momentary “warp speed” issue when they began timing each other, it went well!
They’re going to be great CNA’s. I’ve spent lots of time in hospitals as a friend/advocate–and more recently as a patient–and I’ve seen the good, the bad and the ugly when it comes to CNA’s. These two are going to be GOOD–really good!
