For the past month and a little more, I’ve averaged $100+/day working very part time as a copywriter/editor. I’m not sure how the word is getting out about me, but however it is, my workload is just perfect for me!
I’m getting most of my work at Upwork, even though I raised my rates to where they should be again. I think that accounts for the boost in my popularity there, which seems counter-intuitive.
But think about it: If people expect to get what they pay for, they’re going to be far more likely to open their wallets wide to someone with a ROI and satisfaction ratings that scream, “Kris knows what to do to sell stuff/edit stuff so it sells!”
And nobody second-guesses me when my rates are respectably robust. My clients are confident enough of my abilities to leave me alone to do my work while they focus on whatever it is they do best.
It helps that I’ve created three Doodly explainer videos that show the true evergreen value of a copy/content/features writer, and that I have literally hundreds of testimonials from happy clients to share with anyone who inquires.
It also helps that I’m in it for all the right reasons: to help GOOD providers of products and services succeed as communicators of their value to their customers.
I’m a gatekeeper. I won’t write for anyone who is offering substandard products or services, or for anybody who’s certifiably a jerk with an attitude. Those people shouldn’t get ahead of the good’uns, so I don’t serve them. It’s as simple as that.
I want to develop an additional ten (10) hours of work per week, work I don’t have to look for. That requires finding clients who have ongoing needs for a writer.
I want my workload to be dedicated to people I like and enjoy serving. So far, all of my long-term clients fit that category. (That’s because I won’t have it any other way. My job has to be enjoyable or I won’t do it. I love to write for lovely people!)
